Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straightProverbs 3:5-6
Jesus replied, “You’re right that you only have My word. But you can depend on it being true.
John 8:14A MSG
God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? Or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?
Numbers 23:19 KJV
Hello my dear friend,
How are you?
Imagine it’s October. The days keep going by, but each day reminds us of the mercies of God. I pray that we never take His mercies for granted or become overfamiliar with Him in Jesus name, Amen.
I love hymns. I find them so beautiful, especially when you get to hear the stories behind them. Today’s hymn is ‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus’;
1 ‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
and to take Him at His word;
just to rest upon His promise,
and to know, “Thus saith the Lord.”Refrain:
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!2 O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
just to trust His cleansing blood;
and in simple faith to plunge me
neath the healing, cleansing flood! [Refrain]3 Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
just from sin and self to cease;
just from Jesus simply taking
life and rest, and joy and peace. [Refrain]
One day, as I was singing the hymn ‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus, the line, “Just to take Him at His word, just to rest upon His promise, just to know ‘Thus says the Lord,'” came alive to me in a fresh way. I found myself repeating, “Just to rest upon His promise, just to know ‘Thus says the Lord,‘” with deep conviction and confidence.
It was as though a simple but profound truth dawned on me: God cannot lie. Whatever He has promised me and revealed through His Word, He will surely bring to pass. He cannot lie, and He cannot mismanage my life. God can be trusted, and I need to know this with every fibre of my being. I need to know it as surely as I know my own name. It was such a beautiful moment!
So often, we easily forget who God is. He is the King of kings, the King who can never be dethroned. He is the Authority above all authorities and the Sovereign Ruler over all. Yet above all the names by which He reveals Himself, I sometimes think one of His favourites is Father. Oh, how He loves us. He does not hide Himself from us to tease or frustrate us. He is love (1 John 4:8)
The beauty of the gospel is that Christ died for us while we were still sinners (1 John 4:10). If Jesus gave His life for us when we were undeserving, what good thing would He withhold from those He loves?
The reality of doubt, worry, and fear is that they often lead us to question God’s character, His integrity, and His love for us. Personally, I wonder how I would feel if someone questioned my character. I would be deeply hurt. That thought makes me pause and consider how God must feel when I respond to Him with unbelief, worry, or fear, despite His demonstrated faithfulness, love and clear Word to me.
Sometimes, I think we unconsciously forget that God is not abstract. He is not merely an idea, a philosophy, or a concept. He is living. He is personal. He is present.
When we lose sight of this truth, it affects how we relate to Him. It influences how we respond to challenges and can lead us to adopt postures of self-sufficiency, relying on our own strength rather than leaning on Him.
The Bible says, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee” (Isaiah 26:3).
Whenever we trust God, we are, in essence, saying, “I have confidence in You. I have found You to be faithful. I know that You are trustworthy, and I love You.”
Trusting God is a choice. It is not passive. Your mind does not go on vacation. Trust requires intentionality. It means continually directing your thoughts back to God’s character, His promises, and His faithfulness, especially when circumstances tempt you to do otherwise.
You cannot truly love someone you do not trust, and genuine love naturally deepens trust. This does not mean you will always understand everything. Rather, trust grows through relationship. As you spend time with someone, getting to know their heart, their character, and their ways, your confidence in them increases. What was once unfamiliar gradually becomes known, and what once required faith is often reinforced by experience.
The same is true in our walk with God. There will be moments when things are unclear, when questions arise, and when you long for greater understanding. In those moments, you can bring your questions to Him. You can have honest conversations with Him and seek His wisdom. Trust refuses to draw conclusions about God’s character through the lens of pain or disappointment. It refuses to question His integrity based on limited understanding or measure Him against the failures and inconsistencies of human beings. Instead, trust anchors itself in who God has revealed Himself to be: Faithful, Good, Loving, and True, even when circumstances seem to suggest otherwise.
So, my friend, when things seem unclear, when doubts creep in, and when weariness begins to settle in, go to Him (Matthew 11:28-30). Let Him help you. Do not carry burdens He never asked you to bear alone. Do not exhaust yourself trying to figure everything out in your own strength. Do not suppress your struggles and simply press on as though everything is fine.
Go to Him. Let Him reassure you. Let Him remind you of who He is. Let Him give you perspective when your vision becomes clouded. Let Him strengthen you for today and provide the grace you need for tomorrow. Above all, let Him teach you again that He is Faithful and that He can be trusted completely.
And sometimes, going to Him also means reaching out to the people He has placed around you. Sometimes what you need is a trusted friend who will pray with you, stand with you, listen without judgement, and gently remind you of who God is when you are struggling to see Him clearly for yourself. There is grace in being supported by others.
Please do not isolate yourself. We were never designed to carry life’s burdens alone (Psalm 68:6). Isolation often magnifies our fears, distorts our perspective, and drains our strength (1 Kings 19). Allow others to walk alongside you, encourage you, and point you back to Christ. There is wisdom in seeking help, strength in Godly community, and comfort in knowing that you do not have to navigate difficult seasons by yourself.
Whatever you are facing today, remember this: God is Faithful. He has not changed, He has not forgotten you, and He is not intimidated by the questions, struggles, or uncertainties you carry. Bring them to Him, let Him give you perspective. Rest upon His promise. Trust His heart. He knows the way, and He will faithfully lead you through.
Until next time, my friend, I leave with this song and this prayer:
Song
God can be trusted
God can be trusted
Hang on, my brethren, don’t be discouraged.
God can be trusted.
God can be trusted
God can be trusted
Be still, my brethren; hold on to His promise
God can be trusted
Prayer
Father, I lift my dear friend unto you, in need of love, encouragement and strength.
I come to the throne of grace to ask for mercy and grace for help in times of need.
Please strengthen my friend; let my friend know You are real, You are love, You are kind, and You are faithful.
Please wrap Your arms of love around my friend and help my friend out of complicated circumstances that might have clouded their view of You.
Please send encouragement, reassurance, and help them live one day at a time.
Thank You, Father, in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
