Hello Friend,
How are you doing 😊
Two weeks ago, we started a series titled ”Waiting” . So far, we have looked at ”Waiting”, ”Encouragement” and today we continue with a focus on Counterfeits. The dictionary defines counterfeit as ‘made in exact imitation of something valuable with the intention to deceive or defraud’
When seeking God’s will in matters such as marriage, it’s common to notice distractions or counterfeits appearing in your path. This requires significant discernment to understand what God is communicating at any given moment. The period of waiting can be particularly vulnerable, especially after an extended time. It’s not unusual for someone who appears to embody the qualities of a Child of God to show up, only to reveal themselves as a fraud.
This raises an important question: why is this the case? The Holy Spirit has helped me recognise that the enemy actively opposes marriage because he understands its potential power. As mentioned in Deuteronomy, “One would chase a thousand, and two could put ten thousand to flight (Deuteronomy 32:30)” . This highlights the immense strength that comes from unity in Godly partnerships. Moreover, the enemy also targets Godly offspring, often pushing individuals towards poor marital choices.
Let’s take a closer look at Deuteronomy 32:30 (AMP), a verse often cited to emphasise the blessings associated with marriage:
“How could one chase a thousand and two put ten thousand to flight unless their Rock had sold them and the LORD had given them up?”
Many people focus solely on the first part, which speaks to the blessings of unity in marriage. While it’s true that together you can accomplish much more than when alone, the verse actually begins with a question and ends with the statement signifying Gods soverignty and ordination in this acomplishment happening. This suggests that if you enter a marriage that God hasn’t ordained for you, you may miss out on those promises. You might achieve some level of success, but it likely won’t measure with the fullness of what God had intended for you. Remeber, His thoughts towards you are of Peace to take you to an expected end (Jeremiah 29: 11 KJV).
Entering marriage shouldn’t be guided merely by emotions; it’s essential to seek God’s direction through His Spirit. In Proverbs 3: 5-7AMP, we see this come into play
”Trust in and rely confidently on the LORD with all your heart. And do not rely on your own insights or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognise Him and He will make your paths straight and smooth (removing obstacles that block your way). Do not be wise in your own eyes: Fear the LORD (with reverent awe and obedience ) and turn entirely away from evil.”
Marriage is about aligning purposes and relying on Him to navigate the institution of marriage properly, ensuring that you can experience the blessings He has laid out for it. God speaks against mixed marriages, a topic referenced in both the Old and New Testaments. The term “mixed” doesn’t refer to geographic differences but rather to differing spiritual temperatures—being unevenly yoked with someone who does not recognise Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Such unions often fail to fulfill divine purpose. When there’s a lack of mutual spiritual commitment, who leads the family—God or worldly interests?
Your marriage is much more than a romantic partnership; it’s a ministry. While love and romance are important, a Kingdom marriage is fundamentally about partnering with God to bring His kingdom to earth and fulfill His will.
I recently listened to a message by Pastor Mildred Kingsley Okonkwo, who, along with her husband Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, is devoted to promoting Kingdom marriages. She shared a thought-provoking quote from a movie: “We don’t marry for love; we marry for God, for the Kingdom, and for Duty.”This made me reflect on the true purpose of marriage. Are you centering your journey on God, or is it merely to fulfill an emotional need? Remember, marriage is meant for two complete individuals, not two halves coming together.
This doesn’t mean you won’t experience deep affection for your partner. Love and attraction are essential. However, the desire to marry as children of God should primarily stem from a place of surrender—inviting God to lead the way in your relationship. The most fulfilling path is not driven by self-gratification, but by embracing God’s perfect will for your life.
As we go into the week ahead, may you experience a peace that transcends all understanding, and may God’s love, grace, and mercy be undeniably present in your life.
Wishing you a victorious and joyful week ahead! Take care!
